If you are in Team Blonde then reading this post is essential!
Have you ever wanted to maintain a brass free blonde look? Have you ever dreaded the orange under tones in your blonde hair? Have you ever taken a selfie over five times just to get that perfect lighting that does not show any of the brass in your hair? Well, in this post we will give you tips on how to maintain a nice brass free blonde shade:
1- When dying your hair a lighter shade without bleaching it first , make sure you don't go above 3 shades lighter than your hair. IF you want a lighter shade; its okay, you will eventually reach your goal of light shade but you have to go by lightening it gradually.
2 - When dying your hair with box dye, make sure you choose an ASH tone, anything with "A" written on it is ASH. Ash is the opposite of golden; golden gives your hair warm red undertones while Ash gives violet and grey undertones, thus, with Ash you will be on the opposite side of brassiness.
3 - Invest in a Purple shampoo or conditioner. Yes Purple cancels out orange! Take a look at the color wheel and see how they are opposite of one another. Purple shampoos and conditioners help cancel out any brassiness that creeps up on your blonde locks. It will make your highlights brighter and more fresh and more on the silver than on the orange side. We recommend these good purple shampoos and conditioners : Clairol Shimmer Lights purple shampoo and conditioner and Joico's Purple Shampoo and Conditioner. Make sure when you buy a purple shampoo or conditioner that the product's color is deeply pigmented (Deep dark violet color).
4 - Invest in a good toner. Toners are like hair dyes but they deposit color instead of lightening your hair. So if your hair started turning orange, then invest in a good violet/blue toner that will cancel out the orangeness in a way that will revive your hair color like you just got out of the salon. Some of the good toners we recommend are Wella Color Charm T18 and Wella Color Charm 050 with 10 or 20 volume developer.
5 - Do a purple mask! Buy a white deep conditioner or hair mask and mix it with a semi permanent purple hair dye or with you purple conditioner and leave it on your hair for 10 to 40 minutes depending on how ashy you like your hair to be. If your hair is a very light blonde, be careful, this step might leave some lavender / lilac in your hair so keep it to the minimum time. This way you will be able to tone your hair and nourish it at the same time.
We hope you found those tips helpful!
Enjoy your blondeness for as long as possible!
