After staring into space for a while, Lilly looks at the clock sitting on the wall above her dining table. She looks at it with absolute shock! It's 7:00 pm already in she hasn't done anything in her day!
We can all relate to Lilly, I am pretty certain that all of us have experienced something similar to Lilly's situation in a way or another. It is certainly not the best feeling in the world!
To avoid this kind of negative encounter and to make sure you make the most out of your day; read the following tips:
1- Before going to bed, make a mental but preferably a written note of the things that you want to be done the next day.
2 - Give yourself personal deadlines. Whether it is for the books you are reading, for the chapters that you are studying or certain new hobbies you are taking on; put a deadline for each accomplishment on your calendar. This way you will be able to fly your way through your aspiration list like a feather in the wind.
3 - Take breaks between daily tasks. If you have to finish the three chapters of a book you're studying for an exam; take a 20 minute break of something you like to do between chapters. This break could include your daily stretching exercises, or a nice hot shower, or maybe an episode of "friends" on Netflix.
4 - Expand your knowledge capacity. Every day, give yourself the opportunity to learn something new. Make time for that; Unlike other species, we as human beings are blessed with the ability to comprehend, learn and be intelligent. Expand your knowledge by watching a certain documentary, or reading an article about something that is out of your comfort zone.
5 - Manage your time. In the morning, make a written estimate of how much time you need in order to accomplish each task you need to do. Give yourself real time estimates and do not make yourself handle more than you could. The most important thing is not to let stress creep in, because if it does, it will interfere with the harmony of your day's flow.
When you follow the simple tips that have been listed above; at the end of the day you will realize how much you have made out of your day. A definite guarantee is that you will certainly be proud of yourself !
It is finally five o'clock and you have just finished the last of the paperwork in the office....PHEW! Suddenly, the alarm on your phone goes off reminding you to pick up your dry cleaning so you can have the perfect velvet dress ready for tomorrow's big company conference; you are the key speaker! On your way to the dry cleaner's you realize you need to pass by Walmart to pick up some boneless chicken breasts and pineapple cause you promised your husband that you are going to make him his favorite sweet and sour Chinese dish for dinner! Your head is about to explode! You go back home exhausted and you just want to throw yourself on the couch and sleeep.....Not the perfect serene day right?
Instead of stressing out about the reality of your day to day life, it is important for you to just pause for a second and grasp it in your hands and take control. You need to tell yourself that this is your life and you get to control the stress factors in it; even if it was just for 30 minutes during the day. You need some "ME TIME". During your stressful day, keep telling yourself : "It is okay to be stressed "right now" because I am going to treat myself in some "ME TIME" later on today ! Talk about positive reinforcement!
Some "ME TIME" Ideas :
1- Light up a beautifully scented candle and indulge in a hot bath and a warm cup of hot chocolate while watching an episode of your favorite TV show on your tablet
2- Listen to some calming zen music while writing in your journal on your balcony
3 - Read your favorite book in bed
4 - Go for a walk around the block
5 - If it is warm outside, go for a quick swim to clear your head
Always remember that "ME TIME" is subjective, all you have to do is give yourself 30 minutes a day of something that you really love to do. This way you will recharge and continue doing your daily activities with a better mood and a broader perspective on your life.
We all love to be happy, look for things that make us happy, say we we want to be happy. Then what is happiness? Is it a feeling? Is it a thought? Is it a state of mind?
Happiness is subjective, it differs from one person to another. Happiness to you can be the smell of your morning coffee whereas for your sister; it can be that new pair of shoes that she has saved up for all last month. As long as it is something that sincerely puts a smile on your face then at that very moment you can consider yourself "happy". Happiness is a collective series of things that are in your life that make you feel good. These things may include a good husband, a beautiful home, a respectable job, a TV series that you love so much, good health, a talent and many many more blessings.
But the key and the most important foundation to happiness is the secret of looking forward to something. Its looking forward to seeing your good husband, looking forward to watching your favorite TV series, Looking forward to going to work,..etc. is what really makes you happy. If you don't look forward to tomorrow, how are you going to wake up in the morning? We all subconsciously are on a continuum of looking forward to things, things in our lives that make us happy....
So keep looking forward to waking up everyday, even if its for the hazelnut latte that you have every morning and find that feeling of tranquility and peace that lays at the very bottom of it, maybe at that very instant moment you will experience of what us people call "happiness".
